You know the saying, always use the right tools for the job. Just like trying to build a cabinet with the wrong saw, trying to stand up paddle surf with the wrong board or a crappy paddle can be very frustrating and I know from experience. When I first visited Honolulu the first couple times, I rented a stand up paddle board from the outfits right on the beach in Waikiki. It is very convenient, I will give them that. But, most of the gear is raggedy or busted. The stand up paddle boards they do have are not very nice ones and can be very unforgiving for beginners out on the water. Nothing is worse than spending money on a rental and then falling off your board all day because you can’t stay balanced. Almost as important is the paddle which can make your life easy or very difficult out there in the Waikiki surf. Often, the stand up paddle rentals on the Waikiki beach don’t have the right size paddle for you or the have one that is all busted up. So, if you are very unlucky, you find your self on a board that is not very stable and a paddle that doesn’t propel you very easily. This can ruin what could otherwise be a great time out on the water.

With a nice board that is the right width and length for your expereience level and a light paddle that is the right height and in good repair, you will have a totally amazing experience out on the ocean.
